Shrewsbury strike star is a free agent
Dan Udoh officially became a free agent yesterday after his contract expired at Shrewsbury Town.
Players’ contracts run until June 30, and with the Town fan-favourite still to make a decision on his future. However, he is no longer a Salop player.
Speculation around the Town talisman’s future has been building in recent weeks after fellow out-of-contract players Chey Dunkley and Marko Marosi announced they were leaving the Croud Meadow.
Dunkley signed a three-year deal with League Two Chesterfield, while Marosi, although has confirmed he will not be playing in Shropshire next season, has not signed a contract elsewhere.
The situation with Udoh has been rumbling on since last November when former boss Matt Taylor first revealed the striker had been offered a new contract.
Shrewsbury are operating within certain financial restrictions this summer and the two parties have been unable to come to agreement on terms with a host of other EFL clubs interested in Udoh’s signature. The forward ended up with 10 League One goals last term, and he was very impressive after Paul Hurst took over in Shropshire scoring seven in 16 appearances.
Meanwhile, Shrewsbury’s players returned for pre-season training yesterday.
The players arrived for testing at the back end of last week, but yesterday was the first day of training with the clash against Brackley Town coming up on July 13.
n Town's pre-season friendly against county rivals AFC Telford United has been put back two weeks. It will now take place on Tuesday, July 30, at 7.45pm at the New Bucks Head.
