Shrewsbury 'fighting' for better financial future
Chairman Roland Wycherley is fighting to turn around Shrewsbury Town’s finances, according to chief executive Liam Dooley.

When the 2022/23 accounts were released in April it was revealed Salop’s cash reserves had fallen from more than £1.5 million to £81,184 in 12 months – and the Town chairman described the period as the most difficult of his tenure.
But the club’s CEO, Dooley, says the chairman is working hard every day to turn it around as quickly as possible. “I think he put in his chairman’s address within the accounts,” Dooley said. “And he said at the AGM himself as he spoke, it has been the most challenging time of his entire tenure.
“I think all he has ever wanted is the very best for Shrewsbury Town. That is where he has taken the club from, and where he has brought it to today, it has always been for the best for the football club, for the Town and for the supporters.
“I think day-to-day it has really hurt him where it is now. It has hurt him personally, and he is fighting here every day to try and turn it around as quickly as possible.
“From my perspective, I have said from day one I am here to support him and get him back to a place where he is happy with where we are on and off the pitch.
“But it has been a tough time for him.”
Town are facing a huge rebuild this summer on the pitch having let some of their bigger earners go when their contracts ended in Shropshire.
They have also offered Marko Marosi and Chey Dunkley new terms despite having options in their contracts to keep them.
