Shrewsbury boss wants repeat prescription

Shrewsbury Town head coach Paul Hurst has urged his side to replicate their midweek performance at Bolton when they check in at The Valley this weekend.

Salop’s next League One game comes around just as quickly as they make the trip to the capital on Saturday to take on Nathan Jones’ Charlton.

Town produced an excellent display on Tuesday night against Bolton to get a point and Hurst says his players have now set the standard.

“I think there is an element about how we started the game which was good,” Hurst said.

“I thought we had some spells, passed it, we were organised, nice pitch, nice stadium, and we know the importance, and that is the only criticism on there.

“We cannot get up for this game because we have got to. That has got to be Wycombe, Cheltenham or whoever you are playing.

“It is not easy to go there and get a result like that, but it is perhaps easier to motivate yourself.

“On Saturday, I hope that follows on, in terms of it will be another good stadium, a decent crowd in again so I am hoping we can get that response. But back to that word consistency.”

Meanwhile, Hurst has also said he does not think midfielder Jack Price will start a game this season.

Price has made a couple of cameo substitute appearances since signing on a free and he scored a wonderful goal against Oxford – but Hurst thinks starting a game might be a step too far.

“I don’t think he will start a game, is my honest thought on that,” Hurst said.

“He trained on Monday which was a positive as it has often been the case after he has had any kind of minutes, and I know it wasn’t too many, but it has been a real struggle come the first training day afterwards.

“It is just a case from my point with there being a couple of games left there is a quick turnaround, let’s see if we can get something out of him.

“Even if it is that one moment he produces against Oxford you can justify it. Again, I think everyone from team-mates to the fans and anyone linked with the football club wants Jack to do well.

“I read his interview after his goal and how much it means to him, so that says a lot.”
