Shrews wait on defenders Jones and Bennett ahead of MK Dons match

Graham Turner hopes that Darren Jones and Julian Bennett can shrug  off injuries ahead of tomorrow's home clash with the MK Dons.

Jones is struggling with a thigh strain after Saturday's 1-0 victory over Crewe while loan signing Bennett is nursing a back problem.

The Town boss's options could be further restricted with Lee Colins crying off training because of flu.

But Turner said: "I do expect both the centre halves to be fit, if either of them are not this could be an opportunity for Connor Goldson to come in."

Midfielder Paul Parry will definitely not be involved in the MK fixture. The former Welsh international was ruled out of the Crewe game with a hip injury and Turner estimates it will be up to 10 days before before he can count on him again.

The Shrewsbury boss was quick to praise the home faithful for getting behind his team during the weekend win, secured by midfielder Luke Summerfield's first-half header.

"The thing that caught my attention was the level of support from the crowd," he said. "It was superb. We know we didn't get our game flowing at times, but the supporters knew how important those three points were."

Jermaine Grandison shared the defensive plaudits after Shrewsbury moved out of the bottom four with their first win in six games.

Town have leaked early goals in four of their last five outings. But they were resolute at the back on Saturday against a lively attack – although fortunate to survive a penalty shout when Lauri Dalla Valle crashed inside the box before the interval.

But full-back Grandison stressed it was not just the hard work put in by the Town back four and keeper Chris Weale which kept the Railwaymen largely at bay.

"We defended well as a team. We defended from the front well and the midfielders played their part just as much as the boys at the back," said Grandison.

"We've conceded far too many goals recently. But the defending was good and the communication at the back was excellent.

"Up front Luke (Rodgers) and Marvin (Morgan) worked their socks off.

"It was a great team performance. It's been hard not getting the right results, but the lads have kept working hard and the manager and staff have stuck together."

Town's fourth win of the campaign took them up to 20th in the League One table helped by defeats for Bury and Oldham as well as Lee Hughes' timely late leveller for Notts County at Scunthorpe.
