Paul Hurst searching for Shrewsbury positives

Paul Hurst insists there are positive signs in Shrewsbury Town’s play as he attempts to pick apart their tough start to the season.

Salop have lost five out of their first six games in League One this season – most recently losing 1-0 at home to Nathan Jones’ Charlton on Saturday.

But Hurst’s team performed well over the 90-minute clash and arguably deserved more from the game.

And he says they must take a ‘broader view’ than just looking solely at the result.

The head coach said: “It is about the result and you just want your team to win, and the football club to be successful. But for us as staff, we have to take a broader view and not just be like ‘That is it we have lost’. And forget some of the things that have happened that have contributed to that result.

“Some of that was quite good out there, the first half in particular.

“In the second half, I think there are things we could do better. I think we got a little bit desperate too quickly and probably threw the ball forward too early in the phases of play.

“I think for the first seven or eight minutes like there was a little bit of edginess out there. They had a couple of long-range efforts but in the main, I thought we were relatively comfortable.

“It is just the nature of this game and watching a football match when you are emotionally attached to one team that when they are attacking you get a bit nervous but in the main, there was not much at all.

“We spoke about their direct play and Luke Berry making the runs from balls up to the centre forward. All of these things, we cannot just forget them, if you are a fan then of course there is no reason to think about all these things.”

Shrews are back in action this weekend when they head to newly-promoted Mansfield, who have made a good start to the season.
