Midlands men who might just fit the bill for Shrewsbury Town

When Shrewsbury Town went to the play-off final in 2018 their season of success was based around good loans.

Paul Hurst was responsible for building that squad, with players like Ben Godfrey coming from Norwich, and Dean Henderson from Manchester United.

Next season Micky Moore and Hurst will be in charge of the recruitment, and Moore was known for his connections in the Midlands at his previous club Cheltenham.

So what players at Midlands clubs could be of interest to Salop next season?

Zac Ashworth

The son of Dan Ashworth, former Newcastle technical director, is currently on loan at Bolton – who are taking part in the League One play-offs.

He has made 16 appearances scoring two goals, but has not has much game time of late. He heads into the last year of his deal at West Brom next season and will want to put himself in the shop window. With Mal Benning's future uncertain at Shrewsbury – he could compete with George Nurse for that spot.

Mo Faal

Another player at West Brom. He has played in Shropshire after a spell with AFC Telford United. Since then, he has played in League Two, representing two clubs last season. He started the campaign at Doncaster scoring eight times in 25 games before he moved closer to home, with Walsall scoring another six goals in 20 appearances, most of which came from the bench. With the questions about Dan Udoh's future at Shrewsbury, he could be a good option next season.

Nathan Fraser

A name Salop fans will know well after being linked with the club in the last two transfer windows before staying at his parent club, Wolves. He still needs to go out there and get some game time, but after scoring a couple of senior goals for Gary O'Neil's men, he might have his sights set on a higher-end Championship move. He still has very little experience, and with the proximity to home, Salop could be a good fit.

Louis Barry

The Aston Villa youngster has just been promoted out of League Two with Stockport. He has played in League One before, but his spells with Ipswich and MK Dons were not successful. He is a player with a lot of talent, but before he goes higher up the pyramid he may feel he needs to conquer the third tier first.

Sil Swinkels

If Chey Dunkley does not sign his new contract at the Croud Meadow then Swinkels as a centre-back could be someone Shrewsbury look at.

He has just recovered from an ACL injury and has been playing in Villa's under-21s. He needs a loan move it is just whether Shrewsbury thinks he is someone worthy of taking a risk on. –
