Middlesbrough's Adam Reach signs for Shrews

Shrewsbury Town today added more firepower to their ranks with the capture of Adam Reach on a month's loan from Championship side Middlesbrough.

The England under-20 international has already made 18 appearances for Boro and joins for an initial 28 days, with an option to extend until January.

The left-sided 20-year-old has an eye for goal, scoring a 25-yard screamer on his full debut against Burnley last August, one of three goals he has notched for Tony Mowbray's side.

Reach previously spent time out on loan at non-league Darlington in 2011 and will now leave the Riverside Stadium again, temporarily, for a spell at the Greenhous Meadow.

Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner said: "He's a big strong lad, plays on the left side, runs with the ball well, has a great delivery with his left foot and gets among the goals.

"When you have lost five members of your first-team squad, it means that you are down to the bare bones so we needed to bring in some new faces to the squad.

"We are pleased to have Adam with us, his pedigree is excellent and I am sure the supporters will take to him.

"It's a youth loan for an initial 28 days but we have a good relationship with Middlesbrough and I'm sure, if it all goes well, then it will be extended."

Is the Town's second loan capture in two weeks, after Graham Burke arrived from Aston Villa on a youth loan until January. He made his debut at Leyton Orient last weekend.

Burke was back in training after international duty with the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad in the Faroe Islands this week, where he was an unused substitute.

Both come into the reckoning for tomorrow's visit of Swindon in League One, possibly along with right-back James Tavernier and Birmingham City loanee Akwasi Asante.

Tavernier suffered an ankle problem in training last Friday which forced him to miss the Orient game, while striker Asante has been out for nearly a month after tearing his hamstring.

But the duo trained today and, barring any reaction, stand a chance of being involved the squad that will face the Robins tomorrow.
