Luke Summerfield is keen to share away-day plaudits

Shrewsbury Town  midfielder Luke Summerfield has hailed Town's "magnificent" team effort after they grabbed their first away win of the season at Stevenage on Saturday.

Town's 3-1 victory at Broadhall Way ended the lenghty search for victory on the road that dated back to March 12 last season, when they defeated MK Dons 3-2 in League One.

It was also the first time they had scored three goals in a game this season.

Summerfield earned several plaudits for his man-of-the-match display, in which he helped create Town's first two goals, but he was quick to share the praise with his team-mates.

He said: "We can all talk about individual performances but at the end of the day, as a unit, we were magnificent on Saturday.

"And we came away with the away win that we have wanted for a long time.

"It's about time we've had a result away from home. I think the way the game went and how we played was really pleasing because we controlled it for long periods of the game and played some of our best football.

"Our games have been getting better and better recently and to score three goals away, we are very happy.

"It does make it a little bit extra special that I had a hand in both of our goals in the first half, but it is not all about personal performances.

"We went there as a unit to get three points and we worked out socks off to get it.

"It wasn't just about my performance, it was about everyone's performance. The back four were excellent at keeping them out second half and going forward we could have scored a lot more goals. There were a lot of positives for us."

Town had to battle back from a goal down midway through the first half, when Francois Zoko scored from close range.

But they responded with strikes from Adam Reach, Tom Eaves and Joe Jacobson.

And Summerfield insisted the team had remained calm and confident even after falling behind.

"We weren't too concerned when we went 1-0 down. We were controlling the game before the goal," he said.

"They had a bit of a spell when they scored the goal, which was a bit lucky, but we have grown as a group and we went from strength to strength after that."
