League Two leaders Bromley eye step towards glory against Shrewsbury Town

Andy Woodman has overseen a remarkable rise at Bromley, with his side eyeing another step towards securing the League Two title

What a story Bromley are writing this season - and the title is firmly within their sights.

In just their second season in the Football League, the Ravens have taken League Two by storm and sit top of the table heading into their final five games.

Victory over Shrewsbury Town would represent another huge step towards promotion.

However, while they have surged to the summit, their momentum has dipped slightly in recent weeks, with a defeat to Barrow followed by a draw at Barnet last Friday. That point, though, came via a dramatic equaliser 11 minutes into stoppage time.

Prior to those results, the league leaders had won three consecutive matches - all by a 1-0 scoreline.

Despite that, they have been formidable at home, going unbeaten in all of their league matches on their own ground this season, winning 12.

Speaking after the draw at Barnet, boss Andy Woodman said: “They are all tough, they all have twists and turns.

“It’s another game gone, and another game where we are still where we are.

“We have got to keep going. It’s heart in your mouth time for everyone isn’t it. I am certainly enjoying it.”

Since taking charge in March 2021, Woodman has overseen a remarkable rise. He guided Bromley to the National League play-offs in his first season, before they lifted the FA Trophy the following year with victory over Wrexham.

In May 2024, he then led the club to promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history.

Michael Cheek has been central to Bromley’s success, scoring 148 goals in 322 appearances since 2019, including 16 in League Two this season. However, he has been sidelined since picking up a knock against Oldham Athletic last month.

In his absence, Nicke Kabamba has stepped up, scoring twice in the last three games to take his tally to 13 league goals for the campaign.
