Jamie Tolley: Priceless Shrewsbury Town win adds to positive takeover-related mood

See the latest piece from our Town columnist Jamie Tolley on the back of the 2-0 win over Salford to go with the takeover latest.

Saturday was what everybody at the football club needed.

It was all set up for the fans after some good news regarding the takeover developments throughout last week. There is excitement around the club at the moment.

There is some tension with it as well, which is always a good thing, but it's ultimately up to the lads to go out there on Saturday, put a performance on, and get a result - which is exactly what they did.

Overall the win over Salford was a perfect ending to an exciting week.

There are two ways of looking at Shrewsbury at the moment.

There is the off-field situation, with the selling of the club, on one hand. Then you look at how the team are doing under Gavin Cowan on the field. Obviously results speak for themselves.

We all look at the table on a Saturday night and see where we're up to. It hasn't made for good reading.

But I think there was a huge sigh of relief felt by a lot of people when they saw the takeover news. I think that just rolled into the weekend and the lads went out there and did it against Salford.

They looked really comfortable and got the three points, which is what everyone wanted.

If you took the ownership aside and just focused on the football stuff, which is what most of us do, then you have to say that was a really big three points on Saturday

It was nearly a must-win game. They definitely needed a good performance, and if they could get points to go along with a performance, then all the better.

But I spoke to a lot of people who were at the game, and they felt it was a really good, comfortable performance.

To keep the board ticking over again with the second win of the season is a massive bonus.

Regardless of the noise going on, the focus has to be on the players and on the matchday, getting the points tally going upwards.

Young Kian McMahon-Brown lit up his home debut with a first Football League goal and he looks a fantastic player.

He looks like he's got bags of potential. I've seen loads of players over the years with massive amounts of potential, but they haven't quite hit that level.

From what I’ve seen of this teenager on loan from Burnley in the little spell so far he looks really brave for such a young player. He wants to get on the ball, he wants to make a difference and make things happen.

That's what you tell players nowadays, especially young ones coming into the game - go out there and make a difference. Make people talk about you and talk about your name. That's exactly what he's doing.

It was such a big win when you factor in the situation off the field.

If prospective owners are looking to take over Town and they’re seeing them getting beat every week, then it's not a great look, is it?

It's like buying a business and it's losing money week on, week out. When you see that the performances are changing, the results are changing, you've just got to sit there and rub your hands together.

For both parties, it's fantastic to see a positive result.
