Injury woe for Shrewsbury Town striker Sam Winnall

Shrewsbury Town's on-loan forward Sam Winnall has been ruled out of Saturday's League One trip to Doncaster.

The 21-year-old – who joined from Wolves last week – limped out of Tuesday's goalless draw at Brentford after just 15 minutes with a hamstring problem.

He will miss Town's first ever trip to the Keepmoat Stadium and the early indications are that he could be sidelined for up to two weeks.

With Winnall absent for the second part of Shrewsbury's away double header, the door could swing open for Terry Gornell to earn a recall to the starting line-up.

The 22-year-old is still waiting for his first goal of the season, but came within a whisker of breaking his duck on Tuesday when he produced a fine save from Brentford goalkeeper Simon Moore and also hit the woodwork.

And boss Graham Turner was pleased with Gornell's performance in midweek.

"The keeper made a very good save from Terry in the first half from his header and then he hit the bar," said Turner.

"I thought while he was on there he contributed to the level of performance we put in.

"Goalscorers thrive on goals and it's not worked out so far for him this season.

"But I know when he is selected or goes on, he puts in a good shift for the team."

Meanwhile, Turner will ask for observations from the Professional Game Match Officials Board in the wake of Tuesday's reversed penalty decision.

Town were awarded a spot-kick when a Marvin Morgan shot was blocked by the arm of Bees defender Tony Craig, only for referee Tim Robinson to downgrade his verdict to a corner after a conversation with the linesman.

"We've got the facility to ask for comments about certain incidents in games,"he said.

"We will inform the referees' department of the timing of the incident and ask for observations.

Turner added: "It was a cast-iron penalty and what I can't understand is that the referee was closer to the incident than the linemsan and then decided to discuss the matter with him having given the penalty.

"It was an amazing decision and one that cost us two points."
