Graham Turner hoping Adam Reach will stay at Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner is hoping to extend midfielder Adam Reach's stay at the Greenhous Meadow this week.

Reach's current loan, from Championship side Middlesbrough, expired after Saturday's morale-boosting 2-0 home win over Gillingham.

But Turner will discuss the situation with the club this week and he said: "I'd like him to stay.

"And with his blessing and Middlesbrough's blessing we can keep him here a while longer yet."

Reach has played 10 times for Town since his arrival in mid-August, netting one goal, and Turner has seen a steady improvement from the 20-year-old in that time.

He said: "He has gradually got better. It is a big step to come down from the north east as a young lad and get integrated into another club, another culture.

"And I think he will continue to make progress. There will be a conversation with Middlesbrough. I think if they see him making progress then there's every chance he will stay."

Reach has also declared his willingness to extend his stay at Shrewsbury if both parties agree.

He said: "If the staff at Middlesbrough think I have got an opportunity there then obviously I have got to take that because it is my club and it is a league higher.

"But I don't want to take anything off the table. If they ask me if I am willing to stay here, I am getting games and as a young player if I can get 10, 15, 20 games this season, then that's marvellous.

"Game time equals experience and I need a lot of experience."

The need to retain Reach increased over the weekend with the news that fellow midfielder Luke Summerfield could be sidelined because of a groin injury.

Summerfield was replaced by Dave McAllister at the weekend because of the injury and Turner said: "I don't know if it is a serious complaint yet.

"Once he was examined it was clear he was nowhere near right but you never know, he could be fit for Saturday, it could be several weeks, we don't know yet."
