Graham Turner draws up festive wish list for Shrewsbury Town

Graham Turner today set his Shrewsbury Town players some festive individual targets to bring a sack of Christmas points.

The Town boss sat down with the players after training yesterday to identify their own goals for the hectic festive spell.

Turner wants to stop Town's slide which sees the team go into the period of six games in 29 days in 15th after five defeats in their last eight outings.

He has already set the team the top-reach aim of 12 points from the next six games.

Now he said: "We've got to have belief over the next six matches and I've set the targets for the players.

"Some of it's a bit of fun; some of it's serious.

"We set team targets of goals for and against, set-plays goals for and against, and points, and then for individuals, and clean sheets for goalkeepers.

"Individual strikers should be looking at probably three or four goals over the next six matches.

"They were invited to give their opinion on how many they might score if they play all six matches.

"I'm looking for central defenders to come in with one or two goals – Joe Jacobson and Adam Reach actually reached their target with their two goals each in their last six matches.

"Someone like Jon Taylor told us how many goals he's going to score in the next six matches – and then I've toned it down!"

Turner laid down the gauntlet to his strikers to rid their inconsistency.

"We think we've got a blend there that can get goals but now they've got to prove it," he said.

"We've got Tom Eaves, Gozie Ugwu and Tom Bradshaw, while Jon Marsden has made good progress and has done OK.

"The two – Eaves and Gozie – looked a formidable partnership at Stevenage but they were slightly disappointing against Walsall, as we all were."

Turner, meanwhile, is determined Town reach their true potential in the second half of the season after he admitted they have under-achieved so far.

"I think we've got enough capability with what we can put out to be a top-half of the table side at least," he said. "It's a tough league."
