Gavin Cowan demands full effort as Shrewsbury Town aim to sign off in style

Gavin Cowan has challenged Shrewsbury Town to finish the season strongly as they face Gillingham on the final day.

Gavin Cowan insists Shrewsbury Town will not approach their final game of the season “half-hearted” as they look to sign off in style.

Salop travel to Gillingham tomorrow for their last outing of the campaign, where they face former boss Gareth Ainsworth and could leapfrog his side in the League Two table with a victory.

Town are unbeaten in their last three matches, and Cowan has vowed there will be no let-up, aiming to finish with a flourish.

“It's a right old trek. But this performance and result gives them optimism.

“We're finishing the season strong, we're unbeaten, we're picking up points, we're trying to be the best version of themselves.

“They (the fans) don't want to travel all the way to Gillingham for a half-hearted team. So we won't be doing it half-hearted.

“The chairman, he could tell us to go up on the day. But he's not. He's making sure that the players are preparing properly because he values the fans.

“He understands that people can't be privy to everything that is going on behind that curtain.

“But him and the CEO are working around the clock to make sure that we're preparing as best we can.

“They would have every right to scrimp and scrape on that in the predicament we're in at present.”

Despite their revival under Cowan - and continuing to pick up points after securing safety - Town are winless in their last four away matches.

After three consecutive victories on the road, Salop suffered defeats at Bristol Rovers, Newport County and Bromley, before drawing at Crawley Town in their most recent away fixture.

Shrewsbury are set to be backed by a strong travelling support in Kent after their initial ticket allocation sold out. It is understood more than 350 tickets were purchased, prompting the release of additional seats.

As has become a popular tradition, fancy dress is expected among the travelling supporters - something Cowan admits he is looking forward to.

He added: “I can't wait to see them all, I can't wait to see all the costumes. I hope the fans enjoy the day.

“As always, we will be professional and be looking to try and get a result.”
