“You have to choose your words very carefully,” Dooley said about the controversial topic. “The fact we said we were very disappointed explains how we feel.

“It is the most positive way of saying we are upset about it.

“It is never going to be beneficial to any club in the EFL to get rid of replays, not only financially, but also some of our best moments that we have had as a club are due to replays.

“Financially, there are certainly games that can change your entire season if you get it right.

“From our perspective, as much as we want to stand in line with the EFL clubs and say this is not right as we were not consulted, as clubs and the EFL were not consulted as an organisation.

“But if you are saying would we boycott the competition, we are not in a position financially where we would be able to do that.

“We still rely on the monies we receive from the FA, and sponsorship is all part of what we need.

“If we were in a position where we had lots of cash, maybe it would be easier, but in the real world, we need to be in the FA Cup.

“We need the finances that it brings, and we need to have as good a run as we can because it is the lifeblood of clubs up and down the pyramid.”

Meanwhile, Marcus Bignot, who was assistant coach at Salop last season when Matt Taylor was in charge, is back in work for the first since he left Shropshire in January.

Bignot has been announced as assistant coach to Mark Kennedy at Swindon Town, a club where former Salop wing-back Tunmise Sobowale has also just signed a contract – he was released by Town following their final day home defeat to Leyton Orient.
