Defender's return provides major boost for Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury Town skipper Chey Dunkley says it is a massive boost to have defender Tom Flanagan back from injury.

The former Sunderland man made his first start since Town’s 2-1 win against Port Vale back in November in their recent win against Carlisle.

That win leaves Town eight points clear of the relegation places with seven League One games left to go and Dunkley says, despite losing Aaron Pierre until the end of the season, having Flanagan back is a boost with his experience.

He said: “Tom Flanagan is a massive character for our team, so to have him back, and I know we lost AP (Aaron Pierre) but to have him back is obviously going to be a positive as well with all the experience he brings.

“We have to relish it. We don’t have the hard part, it is the gaffer and the coaching staff who have to pick the right team to get the result and we need to also be in line with that.

“So whatever the gaffer and the coaching staff decide – we are at the stage of the season where this is it now.

“There is no time for worrying if you are not in the team – there is no time for that we need to do everything we can. Not just at the training ground but outside of the training ground being professional doing our recovery right.”

Town welcome Oxford to the Croud Meadow on Good Friday to start their Easter fixture schedule before making the trip to Bristol Rovers on Bank Holiday Monday.
