Dave Edwards column: Still a good Shrewsbury point after late drama - now to face the Pep of non-league!

October has been the best month to be a Shrewsbury fan in some time!

Unbeaten with two wins and two draws - two home wins at that, with three clean sheets, is a lot better and what was needed.

Town will obviously feel disappointment with the manner in which they conceded so late in the game at Oldham. It felt like a real sucker punch having taken that stoppage-time lead through Tommy McDermott.

Because of that you feel like it's two points lost, but away from home and in the manner of how Shrewsbury played overall it was definitely a good point.

In the first half Town were nowhere near the standards they have hit in recent games and were lucky to be level at the break.

I think it took a bit of a dressing down from Michael Appleton to spark the second half. Anthony Scully is getting better each week and it was an excellent first goal for him, hopefully he can kick on.

It was manic after that with chances at either end. It was a neat passing move by Town for what should have been the winner, a lovely touch from McDermott, and then an excellent finish.

It must have been a dream scenario for those Shrewsbury fans, thinking they'd won it in the 90th minute, but then it's criminal to go and concede, especially in the manner they did.

If you can pick up points on the road and win home games it will be enough to move up the table. Town are outside the relegation zone after an excellent month and now we've got an FA Cup break at non-league South Shields, which is not going to be an easy game.

South Shields play some proper football, almost like the Pep Guardiola team of non-league, so it'll be a tough ask, but it'll be a nice break before we can concentrate back on the league.

It's never nice going to a non-league team at this stage of the FA Cup. It's always difficult, whatever the stadium is like, even if the pitch is good, the stadium is always a bit of a leveller. It's something players aren't used to.

I've been on the wrong end of one at Histon, there have been others too.

You need to go there with the right attitude and intensity to match them, first and foremost, then theoretically you should be the better team, because you've got the better players.

Town will be fitter and stronger and need to make that count.
