‘Could be really, really good’ - Shrewsbury Town midfielder’s big verdict
Jay Turner-Cooke has opened up on his start to life at Shrewsbury Town and his recent breakthrough into the starting squad.
Jay Turner-Cooke insists there is “so much more to come” from him at Shrewsbury Town after finding his feet.
The midfielder admits his start at Salop after a summer move from Halifax Town was “tough” as he waited for his opportunity.
But the 22-year-old has relished a recent run of starts and is determined to build on it.
Asked if he had found his feet, Turner-Cooke told the Shropshire Star: “Yeah, definitely. But I still want to improve, I want to show more, I still think there’s so much more to come.

“That’s down to me, to carry on working hard every day in training and improving, because I feel like there’s so much more to come.
“Hopefully with games, I always say with games for me, that will come. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season to see where me and the team can get to.”
The former Sunderland and Newcastle United academy player had to be patient for opportunities during the opening weeks of the season, but has since established himself alongside Tom Sang in midfield during Shrewsbury’s upturn in form.
Reflecting on his wait for a starting place, Turner-Cooke added: “It was tough. Speaking to different players around the club, like Jack Price and skipper Will Boyle, I was doing everything I can to try and get in the team.
“I always believed that I would. But yeah, it was tough, because I knew I could have an impact on the team. Now I am in, it’s down to me to stay in the team and keep doing well.”

Turner-Cooke joined Shrewsbury after impressing for Halifax in the National League last season and is now focused on helping Salop compete high up in League Two.
“I just want to perform to the highest possible level I can to help the team,” he said.
“That’s the most important thing, to help Shrewsbury Town get to where they should be again. Because it’s a big football club, you see that when you’re walking around the town, you see Shrewsbury shirts all over the town, on match day you feel that real buzz.

“I’ve not really had that at any club I’ve been to, it’s a proper family club round here, and I think that’s brilliant.
“I think if we get it right on the pitch - I said to my family - this club could be really, really, good. I think that’s a special feeling.
“I’m really looking forward to trying to get that, and I think the fans deserve it.”
