Comment: The Shrewsbury issue looks pretty obvious and it needs sorting

Watching Salop in their televised clash against Exeter - it would have been pretty easy to see why Paul Hurst's side are where they are.

The reason you generally struggle is for two reasons, you're not good enough in both boxes.

And that can really be applied to Salop, but for one of those reasons more than the other.

Defensively they were okay, aside from Toto Nsiala's calamitous error in the first half that gifted Exeter the lead.

They were seldom cut open, and aside from the second goal Exeter had one other good chance.

On the flip side, Salop, certainly in the first half, were good going forward.

Their build up play was very good, they got into decent areas and created a number of good chances.

In the second, the chances were less frequent but there was a couple to chuck in there.

But the big thing missing, and one thing Salop need if they are going to turn it around is quality in the box.

They just don't have it right now.

You cannot fault the front two for effort, but Salop have had three or four real top chances against Exeter and haven't taken them.

If you don't you get punished, and they did.

And the other kind of alarming thing is that when Salop got into that final third, into the danger zone, you didn't feel like they were going to find the killer answer, whereas Exeter did.

Another difference is that Exeter sub Josh Magennis showed exactly what Salop are crying out for, someone to score the tap ins.

Up to that point, to the 18 yard box, for me they have enough. They can create, they can get at teams, and they have creators.

But they haven't got the most important bit. They need to recruit there in January, it is an absolute must.

It has already been said a number of times it is going to be a long, hard season. It could have an unhappy ending if that one area is not addressed.
