Southampton and AFC Bournemouth interested in Shrewsbury Town academy defender Rhys Davies
Exciting young Shrewsbury Town academy defender Rhys Davies is attracting the attention of several Premier League and Championship clubs.
Davies, 17, is expected to leave Shrewsbury this summer after the club decided against offering him professional terms, the Shropshire Star understands.
He has been on trial at top-flight outfit Southampton, where he impressed, as well as being watched by Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth and Championship leaders Norwich.
The left-back joined on a scholarship and is now in his second year, completing his studies at Shrewsbury, but was made aware he would not be staying on beyond this summer.
Davies, son of former Hereford United and Crystal Palace defender Gareth, has since gone out and starred on loan in non-league at an impressive level for his age.
He played for National League North outfit Nuneaton earlier in the season and is currently at National League South Chippenham. He has played 22 matches of senior football in his spells away from Town this season and caught the eye of several professional clubs.
