Shrewsbury Town received no approach for defender Omar Beckles
Shrewsbury Town have not received an approach from Championship new boys Wigan for defender Omar Beckles.
The giant centre-half, who spent much of his debut Town campaign at left-back under former boss Paul Hurst, joined Shrewsbury from Accrington Stanley last summer.
The Latics were reportedly keen on Beckles as a left-sided centre-half but the Shropshire Star understands interest has now cooled.
The 26-year-old former non-league star signed a three-year deal and still has two years to run on his Montgomery Waters Meadow contract.
The length on Beckles' contract puts Shrewsbury in a strong position should bids come in. Chief executive Brian Caldwell will be driving a hard bargain for Town's prize assets.
Beckles made 47 appearances in his debut Shrewsbury campaign.
