Sphinx stormed into a 3-0 lead by the 80th-minute before Holly Appleby provided a late consolation for Salop with a strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Whitchurch Alport were condemned to a 3-0 defeat at Walsall - while AFC Telford United suffered a 6-2 crushing at the hands of runaway leaders Lichfield City in the West Midlands Division One North.

Abigail Beady and Abbie Norry scored for Telford, but braces for Courtney Dilger and Corinna Williams coupled with solitary strikes by Jaqueline Corazza and Neve Harvey ultimately did the damage.

That result leaves Telford United sitting second from bottom as Alport prop up the table with a mere three points from 12 games so far.

The New Saints ended a run of six successive defeats with a narrow 1-0 win at Swansea City in the Adran Welsh Premier League.

Broseley cut the lead behind league leaders Shrewsbury Up & Comers to eight points with a 7-0 demolition of Newport in the Shropshire Premier Division.

Worthen Juniors lost ground in the title race following a 2-2 draw at Albrighton, as Shawbury United climbed into fourth courtesy of back-to-back wins over Dawley Town and Allscott Heath Development respectively.

Allscott remain second from bottom after suffering a 5-0 thrashing at home to Bridgnorth Spartans just three days earlier.

Meanwhile, Ellesmere Rangers emerged 5-0 victors at rock bottom Prees United.
