Market Drayton Town continued to make hay despite the disappointment of a cancelled friendly - with the star signing of familiar face Armando Wood.

The Gingerbread Men were due to face The New Saints under-19s last Saturday but the clash was cancelled relating to a pitch issue with hosts TNS.

Dave Lloyd’s Drayton, who last Tuesday were beaten 3-1 by Stone Old Alleynians of the league above, instead held a training session and sealed an eye-catching return for popular former winger Wood.

Wood makes the switch from Allscott Heath to Greenfields for a second time after first doing so in late 2024.

The lively winger is a goal threat and skilful operator on the flanks. He turned out for Allscott, also of the North West Counties First Division South, last season.

Drayton are set to complete more new deals in the coming days.

Another familiar face back at the Balufab Stadium for the new campaign is left-sided player Max Raine.

Raine, a former Burton prospect, spent the first half of last season at Town and impressed.

Town have, meanwhile, had their fixtures for the new campaign confirmed and will kick off with a home league clash against Brereton Social on Saturday, August 1.

Drayton then head to Wolves Casuals on Wednesday, August 5 before clashes at home to Crewe FC on August 18 and the FA Vase trip to Studley on August 15.
