Mark Crossley hits the mark at Shrewsbury fundraiser

Former Wales international goalkeeper and Premier League star Mark Crossley was in Shrewsbury last night as the guest of honour at a football fundraiser.

Crossley, who first made name for himself at Nottingham Forest, made an appearance at Shrewsbury Town's Greenhous Meadow stadium.

The 43-year old, who also played for Fulham, Oldham and Chesterfield among others in a 23-year career, was invited by Super Blues, the fundraising arm of the League One outfit.

Crossley, who is the only keeper to save a Matthew Le Tissier penalty, entertained the 230-strong crowd with stories from his life in football.

Further entertainment came from comedian John Martin while the organisation also held a raffle and auction of sporting memorabilia.

A signed England shirt, a VIP day out at Shrewsbury Town and a day of golf for four people at the championship course at the Forest of Arden Golf Club were among the prizes up for grabs.

Also available was the match ball from Shrewsbury's shock 2-1 FA Cup first round victory over Everton in 2003.

Super Blues chairman Chris Smith said he was hopeful that between £3,000 and £4,000 had been raised for the club from the evening.
