Steve Jagielka in agony after breaking and dislocating his wristInjured captain Steve Jagielka will be out of AFC Telford United action for three months as the true nature of his horror injury becomes clear.

Jagielka had initially expected to be out for around eight weeks after suffering the damage to the bones around his wrist when hit by the ball in last week's 1-0 defeat at Harrogate.

But he was given the grim new diagnosis by the specialist who re-plastered his arm on Thursday.

The 29-year-old planned to be at the New Bucks Head for this afternoon's Blue Square North clash with Stalybridge Celtic, but will not skipper the side again until well into the new year.

It's an injury that has forced him to scale back his plumbing business and left him helpless to help at home with his new baby.

"The bone was close to coming out of my skin and I could feel it - it was horrible," recalled former Shrewsbury Town player Jagielka.

"I've got plaster up around my elbow now and the specialist said I'd dislocated my wrist and broken my arm.

"It's all plated and I've got about seven screws in there. It looks like it's come straight out of a Wickes' catalogue.

"With it being plated though, it will be stronger than if it was just locked together.

"I've got to go for a check up again in about 10 days and it could be all right without any plaster on there and wearing a sling instead, it just depends how I feel."

Recalling the moment he suffered the injury, he added: "It was such a close tackle and the ball just came out.

"I must have fully extended my arm and it must have hit it quite hard. I could see my wrist and I thought straight away: 'That's definitely not the right shape'.

"I've done my cruciate before but this was a different pain.

"They admitted me pretty quickly to hospital and kept me in overnight before the operation the next day.

"I'm generally a pretty strong lad so it's a bit freakish for this to happen from something as innocuous as the ball hitting me."
