AFC Telford must upset the history books if they are to embark on a sustained FA Cup run this season. The Bucks have been drawn at home to Southern League premier division outfit Corby Town in the second round of qualifying on September 27.
While fans of the old Telford United will savour fond memories of the run to the fifth round proper in the 1984/85 season, the newly-formed club is yet to pass this stage.
Telford, crucially, will have the home advantage, a luxury they have enjoyed just once in this competition since their formation in 2004.
Not that it did them much good then, Telford falling to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of lower league Halesowen in 2006.
Corby avoided relegation with just one week remaining last season but have started this campaign rather better, flying high in second position with 14 points from 21.
"We're due a run in the FA Cup, but whatever happens, happens," said Telford chairman Lee Carter.
