The Baggies have made an early charge to the top of the pile in the Championship and the seventh clash of the season takes them to Sheffield Wednesday for tomorrow's early kick-off.

An adventurous and pacy attacking set-up, which seems to have evolved from earlier Corberan sides at The Hawthorns, has caught the eye while Albion's defence has shown a mean streak to start having shipped just twice in six games – a best effort since 1953 – with four clean sheets.

A watertight defence is nothing new for Albion under Corberan. Goalkeeper Alex Palmer jointly-won the award for the most clean sheets last season and leads the way with Leeds' Illan Meslier once again this term. Corberan has helped transform the trajectory of Kyle Bartley's career at the Baggies and Albion have maintained their defensive record with Semi Ajayi replacing the departed Cedric Kipre.

Corberan believes that the quality and consistency of attack makes defending easier. He said: "I think that the better you attack then the better you defend, because the better you attack the less you will defend.

"The better you attack the more you stretch the opponent's defending, so probably the less resources they have after to attack you and the better you defend the more chances you reduce and goals you probably concede too.

"In football everything is related like this. Clean sheets start with the way you attack. One example, when we lost the ball in the second half when the defender anticipated (Mikey) Johnston when we tried to break the press, they had one big goal opportunity based on how we managed the ball.

"In football if you want to defend well we have to attack well and have good work, a good organisation and good mentality of the players."

While Albion have conceded just two goals in the first six league games this term, tomorrow's hosts Wednesday have shipped 12.

The next best goals against record so far in the second tier is Sheffield United, relegated from the Premier League last term, with three. The Blades, along with Blackburn, are the only other sides yet to be beaten along with Corberan's troops.
