Ollie Watkins' departure from Aston Villa confirmed
Watkins has completed his move to Saudi Arabia.
Ollie Watkins has completed his move to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal from Aston Villa for a reported fee of £51million.
Former Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson was signed as a replacement earlier this week for £65million, as Villa move into a new era following the departures of former stalwarts such as Emi Martinez, Ezri Konsa, Lucas Digne, Youri Tielemans and Morgan Rogers.
Watkins joined Villa from Brentford in 2020 and scored 108 goals in 278 appearances across all competitions during his six seasons at the club.
His total of 91 in the league sees him leave as the Villans’ record Premier League goal scorer.
A club statement read “He was also the first player in the modern era to score over 100 goals in claret and blue, achieving his century against Bologna last season.
“During his time at Villa Park, he has become an England international, representing the Three Lions at two major international tournaments.
“Capable of scoring different types of goals with a ruthless streak, allied to a selfless work ethic for the team’s benefit, Watkins leaves having played his part in our UEFA Europa League victory and with the very best wishes of everyone at the football club.”
In a post on his Instagram, Watkins announced: “Six amazing years has come to an end. Thank you for the amazing memories and always supporting me through the highs and lows.
“Saying goodbye is never easy to this club as it’s been a massive part of my life on and off the pitch. Once a Villain, always a Villain.”
