The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to Villa Park for a number of weeks following Ezri Konsa’s departure to reigning Premier League champions Arsenal.

According to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Tommas, Villa are closing in on a deal to sign the defender, who has been capped once by England.

Villa had already seen two bids rejected for Harwood-Bellis, who is expected to cost a guarnteed £25million fees plus £5million in bonuses.

There are still more details to finalise, but Harwood-Bellis is likely to complete his move back to the Premier League with Villa.

Harwood-Bellis has not featured for the Saints in any of their past three games in the wake of the speculation surrounding his future.

The defender initially joined Southampton on loan in 2023 and helped guide them to promotion via the Championship play-offs.

He joined them permanently at the end of that campaign and has made 132 appearances in total for the Saints, scoring 12 goals.
