Aston Villa player ratings vs Arsenal as England international gets a 5
Matt Maher gives his Aston Villa player ratings vs Arsenal.

Emi Martinez
Would have wanted a better result to celebrate that new contract and while he might have been unsighted for the second, he’ll feel he should have done better.
Beaten 6
Matty Cash
His early departure with a hamstring injury is a concern for Villa, with 18-year-old Kosta Nedeljkovic the only other recognised right-back.
Exit 5
Ezri Konsa
A good performance. Always seemed to be in the right place to snuff out danger and came close to scoring.
Assured 7
Pau Torres
Just like his central defensive partner, there wasn’t a huge amount wrong with his performance. Good on the ball.
Decent 7
Lucas Digne
It was never going to be an easy afternoon against Bukayo Saka and he coped pretty well right up to the opener.
Worked 6
Amadou Onana
Came close to making it two goals in two games with a deflected effort which hit the bar. Really got stuck in.
Positive 6
Youri Tielemans
Has made a really good start to the season. Some excellent and important touches in the first half to set up counter attacks.
Bright 7
Leon Bailey
Bustling as always, but the sharpness he possessed for so much of last season isn’t quite there at the moment. Often involved.
Nearly 6
Morgan Rogers
Embarked on three or four powerful runs and is developing into a serious player. Needs to improve his final ball but the potential is sky high.
Power 7
John McGinn
Bright in the first half when his quick-thinking set up at least two counter-attacks. Not nearly so influential in the second.
Faded 6
Ollie Watkins
Even the best strikers miss chances. Watkins will have many more good days than bad this season, but he should have scored at least once.
Misses 5
Substitutes
Kosta Nedeljkovic 6 (for Cash, 15), Jhon Duran 6 (for Watkins, 65), Jacob Ramsey 6 (for McGinn, 65), Ian Maatsen (for Digne, 76), Ross Barkley (for Onana, 76). Subs not used: Carlos, Buendia, Philogene, Gauci.
