Ally Robertson: West Brom have to treat final day like a cup final

Well, Saturday’s big finale is almost upon us. I hope the mood of everyone behind us is sky-high to get that win. It will be like a cup final. There will be nerves, but this is for everybody connected with the Albion.

The season as a whole has been great. It’s been a great effort from Carlos and the players. Now it’s just down to one game. Please, please!

The longer it stays 0-0 or it isn’t going our way on Saturday then anything can happen. I don’t want to be greedy but if we can score two early goals, then great.

I don’t want us to score and then sit back and defend, but keep on top.

There are two teams in action here and while Preston have nothing to play for, they will want to come here and give a reminder of what they can do, too. The players will be feeling gutted with how the last few results have gone.

We’re in a position where they can get us into the play-offs and earn money for the club and everyone involved, but we’ve picked up nothing from three games near the end.

It must be a pretty horrible feeling in training at the moment, the message must be ‘come on lads – we’ve got to get this going again’.

Everything that has happened in the last 45 games means nothing right now. It is this game that counts. If we can do everything right and win the game on Saturday we can put those three games behind us as a bad time. I thought we’d get a draw at Hillsborough, and as a result the last day against Preston wouldn’t really mean anything because of the goal difference.

It’s so important that we start right, play right and win the game.

We went 10 games without getting beaten not so long ago and it looked like everything was good, but all of a sudden it’s just gone the other way.

Leicester before that was such a strange day. We could’ve scored a number of goals throughout the contest but we couldn’t punish them and they punished us. At this stage of the season that is the difference. Score the goals and win your games.

It doesn’t matter how you play at this stage of the season. It would’ve been great to play rubbish at Wednesday and win 1-0. The same against Preston on Saturday. Of course we all want to play well and win, but you get no points for how you play.

I’ll be very happy with any win!
