Telford star says emotional goodbyes as move to UEFA Conference League side nears

The first exit of the summer is approaching for Telford.

AFC Telford United star Jordan Piggott is closing in on a move to Welsh Cup winners Caernarfon Town, the Shropshire Star understands.

The 27-year-old has spent five seasons with The Bucks and is one of the most popular players in the club’s modern history, having played more than 150 times since his arrival from Solihull Moors in 2022.

While official confirmation of Piggott’s exit is yet to be announced the West Brom academy graduate, who can operate anywhere in defence and midfield, gave an emotional goodbye to teammates, staff and supporters following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Southport.

It looks set to be the first blow of the summer for Telford, who anticipate an uphill battle to retain a number of key players following their impressive 11th-placed finish in the National League North.

The performances of defender Oliver Cawthorne and midfield duo Khanya Leshabela and Remi Walker have attracted many admirers from outside Telford, and all three are approaching the end of their current one-year deals at the club.

Piggott is also out of contract this summer and his move to Wales is likely to be completed in the near future.

The Canaries will be competing in the UEFA Conference League next season after their 3-0 triumph over Flint Town United in the Welsh Cup earlier this month.

Piggott will link up with former-Telford and Shrewsbury full back Ryan Sears when he completes his move to The Oval. Now aged 27, Sears had two loan spells at The Bucks in 2018 and in 2020.

One Telford supporter posted on X: “ Not a dry eye in the Southport bar saying goodbye to Piggo. What a legend, wish him well.”

Another added: “(He’s) Going to be a very tough one to replace.”
