Telford boss offers apology

A 4-0 New Year’s Day defeat at Stratford Town got AFC Telford United off to the worst possible start in 2025.

Manager Kevin Wilkin issued an apology to supporters for his team’s performance, admitting that defensively, seven goals conceded in their last two matches wasn’t up to the required standard.

“There’s no doubt about it, our defending hasn’t been good enough. We scored some goals on Saturday and gave ourselves a great opportunity to take all three points but we haven’t done that because our defending was poor. It was really poor again today, and the one thing we didn’t do was to take the oppoertunities that came along.”

“As a group, whether defensively or taking those moments, we’ve been really poor here today, there’s no doubt about that. That’s my responsibility, I can’t blame anybody else, and I can’t say we haven’t had moments. Nobody wants to get beaten like that, and I’m not going to blame anybody else. It’s disappointing and people are entitled to have their moan and groan about it. I and we have let our supporters down again and it doesn’t feel great, but we have to show a reaction.”

Stratford’s victory, with two goals each for Lewis Ison and Dan Lafferty, allowed the Bards to leapfrog the Bucks, who dropped to fifth in the table but stayed within five points of leaders Kettering Town, who lost surprisngly at lowly Harborough Town.
