AFC Telford United preview: Kevin Wilkin vows 'it's not over until it's over' ahead of Peterborough Sports trip
Kevin Wilkin has insisted his Telford side are not viewing Saturday’s trip to Peterborough Sports as a ‘dead rubber,’ and is still focused on chasing an unlikely play-off place.
The Bucks have all-but fallen out of the promotion race after a run of one draw and three defeats from their last four games, including two losses against play-off rivals Chester and Kidderminster Harriers.

A trip to already-relegated Peterborough Sports is next up for Wilkin’s side, who sit six points off the top seven with just three games left, and the Telford boss gave little time to suggestions that both sides have nothing to play for, instead vowing to end their largely positive season on a high.

“There have been a lot of plus points about the season, but equally there are bits that we’re frustrated with,” he began. “To get ourselves into a really good position like we did and then allow it to pass us by is disappointing, and we understand it is extremely unlikely that we’ll make the play-offs now.
“That said while there’s a chance we have to put ourselves in the best possible position that we can, and we still want to try and win every game.
“Peterborough will be playing in that comfort zone now that their fate is confirmed, and I’m sure they’ll still want to bring some pride to the proceedings too.”
Wilkin also discussed his plans regarding team selection, with Ammar Dyer and Jamie Meddows both suspended for tomorrow’s game.

“Whether we mix things up a bit I’m not sure,” he began. “Clearly we’ve got some suspensions coming our way so that opens the door for one or two lads who’ve been on the fringe of things to get a chance and show exactly where they’re at.
“Do we make decisions with a view to next season? Look, that’s definitely in my consideration, but after losing a couple of games I want to try and get back to winning ways and if that means playing a similar side to what we have done recently so be it.”
Opponents Peterborough Sports have endured a tricky season in the National League North, and their defeat to Oxford City on Monday confirmed their relegation to step three.
The Turbines have struggled defensively this term and lead the charts for goals conceded with 83, three of which game in a 3-2 defeat at the SEAH Stadium in September.

It brings an end to their four-year stay in the division, and Kevin Wilkin admitted their relegation only highlights the quality throughout the English football pyramid nowadays.
“It does emphasise how competitive the league is,” he began. “Lots of teams are full-time and there are some big budgets in the division, and even the divisions below.
“It is hard trying to compete as a part-time club when you’re working within a budget that can’t compare with so many others, but that’s where it is now.
“That’s where the game has moved and you just have to deal with it and get on with it.”
