Legend Anton Joseph willing on Telford

AFC Telford United legend Anton Joseph has called on the town to get right behind the Bucks and cheer them on to Wembley on Saturday.

Ex Telford player Anton Joseph

Joseph played in the Telford side that reached the fifth round of the FA Cup in 1985, before losing at Everton, and in two of the club’s FA Trophy final wins.

Joseph played in all three of Telford’s FA Trophy finals in their 1980s heyday, when they twice won at Wembley (in 1983 and 1989) under Stan Storton.

He made more than 360 appearances in total and has twice been the Bucks caretaker manager.

And he hopes the glory days are on their way back to Telford – with Saturday’s FA Trophy semi-final with Leyton Orient on a knife-edge. The Bucks are trailing 1-0 after last weekend’s first leg in London, but Joseph believes the Bucks can overturn the deficit and book their place at the showpiece final in May.

It’s really important the fans get behind them – they can make all the difference,” said Joseph.

“It’s been a tough few years but getting to Wembley would be brilliant.

“At 1-0 or even 2-0 they are in the game, I think Orient will come thinking they can control things – I think it’s called ‘game-management’ these days.”

The club’s record of five appearances in the final is unequalled – and Joseph would love to see the three-time Trophy-winning Bucks back at Wembley again, where he had some great times with the club.

“I’ve played at Wembley and it’s a great day,” added Joseph.

“I go back to Wembley for the finals (the Trophy and Vase are played on the same day) - hopefully I’ll see them there again.”

The Bucks today put more tickets on sale for Saturday’s clash as a result of a reorganisation of segregation. The ticket office will be open until 9pm tonight and the game is expected to sell out.

Meanwhile, loan keeper Josef Bursik played in England Under-19s’ 4-1 win over the Czech Republic yesterday.
