AFC Telford boss Gavin Cowan happy to finally have Josef Bursik

AFC Telford United are excited to see what England Under-19 international Josef Bursik can bring – after passing up the opportunity to sign him on loan last summer.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper has joined the Bucks until the end of the season from Stoke and made his debut as they beat Spennymoor Town 2-1 last weekend.

He spent the first half of the campaign at Hednesford Town and impressed greatly, so much so Gavin Cowan was more than happy to take him on – to boost their push for the National League North play-offs.

“We had the opportunity to sign him back in the summer,” said Cowan on Bursik, who was missing today’s FA Trophy tie at Hartlepool due to being cup-tied.

“But with him only being 18, he ended up going to Hednesford and really proved himself there.

“I’ve got a good relationship with Stoke and he’s playing for England Under-19s, so he’s got a lot of potential.

“They wanted to send him here to develop and we’re really happy to have him, “We’ve been pleased with him so far, and we’re excited to see how he does for us for the rest of the season.”

Telford signed Bursik after sending fellow shot-stopper Max Bramley back to Leicester early.

Bramley was due to spend the whole term with the Bucks but lost the No.1 shirt to local lad Andy Wycherley.

Bursik then went straight into the starting line-up, in place of Wycherley, for his New Bucks Head bow.
