Final will beat 'Great Escape' says Robinson
West Brom defender Paul Robinson believes reaching an FA Cup final would even eclipse the 'Great Escape' of three years ago.
West Brom defender Paul Robinson believes reaching an FA Cup final would even eclipse the 'Great Escape' of three years ago.
Albion became the first side occupying bottom spot in the Barclays Premier League at Christmas to avoid relegation courtesy of a last day of the season win over Portsmouth at the end of the 2004-2005 campaign.
Now they will again come fact to face with the South Coast club in Saturday's cup semi-final at Wembley.
Robinson said: "We always seem to play Portsmouth on the big days but this is a totally different game, a whole bunch of new players and a totally different atmosphere.
"I haven't got too many memories of the 'Great Escape' with the night of celebrations we had afterwards! Getting the result to stay up on the last day of the season and seeing the crowd celebrating on the pitch was something I'll always treasure.
"But I think, as a one-off and for different reasons, getting to an FA Cup final would eclipse that because we would be close to winning something rather than just surviving."
