Newcastle have made their first official move for Wolves' striker.

Wolves have rejected an opening £50million bid from Newcastle United for Jorgen Strand Larsen, the Express & Star understands.

The Magpies are keen on the Norwegian striker to bolster their front line and talks have been taking place between intermediaries behind the scenes over a potential fee.

Wolves insist that the player is not for sale and they are desperate to keep him this summer, due to his importance to the team and the limited time left in the transfer window that Wolves would have to replace him.

But that has not deterred Newcastle from making an opening offer of £50million, which Wolves swiftly rejected.

It is understood that Larsen is not pushing for a way out of Wolves, but that he has agreed personal terms with Newcastle if a transfer was to materialise.

Newcastle allowed Callum Wilson to leave on a free transfer earlier this summer and are at an impasse with Alexander Isak, who is refusing to train or play as he attempts to force through a move to Liverpool.

As a result, Newcastle are desperate for a striker signing and had Larsen among a number of options they were interested in, as exclusively revealed by the Express & Star in July.

After a number of talks behind the scenes, Newcastle have now acted on that interest for the first time and after having their offer knocked back, it remains to be seen if they will return with another bid.
