The 57-year-old is in advanced negotiations with the club over improved terms and an agreement is close, with all parties expecting a new deal to be finalised soon.

Pereira arrived at Wolves in December last year, signing a one-and-a-half year contract, meaning his current deal will expire at the end of the 2025/26 season.

But Wolves have now moved to tie him down to a contract until the summer of 2028, with an improved salary, as they show faith in their head coach despite a difficult start to the season.

Wolves are keen on a period of stability under one head coach, as suggested by chairman Jeff Shi in his recent club interview, and they are showing faith in Pereira to turn their season around.

The club currently sit bottom of the Premier League on zero points after suffering four consecutive top flight defeats.

Wolves' only positive result so far has been a 3-2 comeback win over West Ham in the Carabao Cup.

Despite those results, Pereira has insisted that he needs time for his six new signings to adapt and that he will improve the team, and Wolves have now backed their manager by rewarding him with a new deal.

It was a difficult summer transfer window in which Wolves lost Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Pablo Sarabia and Nelson Semedo, alongside some fringe players, and replaced them with six players new to the Premier League.

Many of those signings also arrived later in the window once the season had already begun.

It is understood Wolves appreciate the time it will take for players to adapt and they are prepared to be patient with Pereira.

The club also backed the head coach earlier in the summer with additional staff, amid a restructure behind the scenes.

Bruno Moura and Filipe Almeida were added to the coaching staff in the summer, bolstering Pereira's big team.

On top of that, his son Pedro Lopes has joined the coaching team as an analyst.

Domenico Teti also arrived in June as Wolves' new director of professional football, having previously worked with Pereira at Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab.

This came amid a wider shake-up of the football leadership team at Wolves, as sporting director Matt Hobbs departed.

Pereira is now closing in on his new deal, as Wolves fight for their first points of the season and they now face a huge match on Saturday as newly-promoted Leeds United come to Molineux.
