England's Jordan Henderson suffers injury celebrating stunning Mexico win

The veteran appeared to fall over an advertising hoarding.

Midfielder Jordan Henderson was taken to hospital after suffering a freak injury following England’s thrilling World Cup win in Mexico.

The Brentford star’s tournament could be over after he fell over an advertising hoarding during the post-match celebrations at the Azteca Stadium.

England set-up a quarter-final date with Norway on Saturday thanks to a superb 3-2 win, in which Black Country ace Jude Bellingham scored twice.

But Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel admitted to feeling mixed emotions due to Henderson’s injury.

The 36-year-old had to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher, while receiving oxygen.

“My emotions are very mixed,” Tuchel said. “I’m just proud, but mixed feelings also, because I am exhausted, of course, and emotional but also sad because Jordan got injured.

“He injured his wrist. He is at the moment at the hospital, so it is quite a serious injury. It just doesn’t fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us.

“I don’t know the procedure, or what is going on. I just did the press and the doctor told me he’s in hospital.”

Henderson, an unused substitute, had earlier been booked for his actions on the sideline during a chaotic night which also saw defender Jarrel Quansah sent-off following a VAR review.

That left England, leading 2-1 at the time, playing most of the second half a man down but they held on to win despite Wolves striker Raul Jimenez scoring a penalty for the hosts, after Harry Kane had extended the visiting team’s lead from the spot.
