"Deal with it, lads" - Wolves boss on outside criticism and players' reaction

Rob Edwards says he cannot control whether his Wolves players look at criticism and has urged them to deal with the scrutiny of them.

A terrible start to the season - which has seen Vitor Pereira lose his job and Edwards leave Championship side Middlesbrough to replace him - has Wolves bottom of the Premier League table.

They have a monumental task to stay in the division this season and many pundits and supporters have already concluded that Wolves will be relegated from the top flight.

Edwards admits he cannot control what they see, but also insists he will not try to protect them from it and has called on them to handle that criticism.

He said: "I can't control what they listen to or look at or whatever they might be scrolling on, I don't know, that's out there.

"We're in the position we're in, so we're going to be written off.

"I don't look at anything personally or read anything or listen to anything, but that's just me and I try and put myself in that bubble. But I can't tell the lads not to live their life or anything.

"It's obvious from the position that we're in, where everyone sees us, we've got to answer that by trying to win some games of football. Simple as that.

"So at the moment we're at this level, there's going to be a lot of scrutiny and there's a lot of noise because it's a global league. So deal with it, lads."

Despite the very difficult position Wolves find themselves in, Edwards maintains that they can improve performances and results by managing the basics and he is eager for his side to make those adjustments.

Edwards said: “We're in this bad, bad situation, but how do you want this to go? Do you want to fade away, or do you want to fight?

"There are things in our control, that we can do. Fighting, running hard, winning duels, those sorts of things are in our control.

"You can't control a win, but you can control the other side, intensity, how often you run forward. Are you sprinting back? Are you trying to take risks? Are you trying to be brave?

"We’ve got to control the things we can control at the moment, and hopefully then results will come. That's the biggest message.”

He added: "We've identified a number of things that we want to try and improve and put our stamp on.

"I don't want to be critical of what's gone on before and that's not my business to talk about what's gone before. I want to talk about us and what we can affect now.

"I want our team to play with real intensity and show a lot of fight and spirit in the short term and always.

"What we have gone after is intensity, organisation and things that are in our control, in the players' control, what they can go and deliver when they go over that white line.

"Hopefully we can see a response to that and hopefully we can see a little bit of a change.

"We will try and do things that suit the players and the players are comfortable with. We want to push them and draw as much out of them as we can."
