Dave Edwards: Important point could be Shrewsbury's turning point on travels

Shrewsbury picked up an important point at Walsall but more crucially it could be their turning point away from home.

At times this year they've been far too passive in their approach and haven't been able to raise the intensity of the performances like they have at home.

It's been a real problem for them because the home form has been very good and if you'd have picked up points on the road then we'd be around mid-table.

It was a vital point away at the league leaders and the most impressive thing was the resilience the side showed.

When you go 1-0 down so early in the game from an excellent Daniel Kanu goal, that's where Michael Appleton will find out about the character of his team and how far they've come as well over the last 12 months or so.

They would have crumbled in the past, but I feel the mentality of this squad is changing. There's a real togetherness there now, they look brave, they look courageous.

It took them five or 10 minutes to settle themselves after that goal, but they didn't concede, they defended their box well and played their way back into the game.

The rest of the first half was quite equal. Walsall had some moments, but Shrewsbury looked quite controlled.

Something must have been said from Appleton at half-time because it did look like the shackles were off in the second half. They were brilliant on the ball.

I do think that second-half performance was the best performance I've seen away from home, definitely this season, and probably for the majority of last season as well. If they can continue to hit those heights and find that consistency, then this is a top-half team.

They were very good on the ball, moved it extremely well and started to find Anthony Scully in pockets of space and he had a real impact.

For the goal, Sam Clucas played a lovely pass into George Lloyd, who set it to Tom Anderson and he let his shot go, via a deflection.

That Clucas pass made the goal and having players like that who can take a moment and keep the ball on the floor really helps.

Town were at a crossroads, because a draw is a brilliant result, but we kept going for it and looking for the second goal.

Walsall also had a couple chances too and Josh Ruffels made an incredible late block.

It was more of a basketball game and Town went for it, which I loved to see. The mentality to keep going and going was brilliant.

The away fans were also brilliant again and they got their reward.

Scully was a stand-out performer once again. I think it's obvious to most people now that he's a League One, if not Championship player, and it's about keeping him fit and getting him in positions in games where his team-mates can find him regularly and consistently. If he does that, he will score and assist goals.

He looks sharp, he looks creative. He's a little bit of an X Factor, which we haven't had for quite a while. He's not a robotic footballer who is used to playing in a shape and makes the same passes every single time, he's the one who picks it up and he plays completely on instinct.

For Town it's only one loss in the last six now and if they can keep continuing that away form and harness that with some good home form, then I really do expect this team to start marching up the table.

Meanwhile, the chairman has been left very disappointed with the ticketing for their FA Cup tie at Wolves.

It was set to be a real money-earner for the football club and Wolves have set their prices at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

I understand that Wolves at the moment will be worried about the attendance of that game and they are trying to entice fans into the stadium.

It's a bit of a lose-lose for Wolves, but it does feel like Shrewsbury have been hard done by at the same time and to think that they might not make as much as what they made at South Shields is crazy.

The more worrying thing for me is that it's not being televised on mainstream channels and will instead be shown on Discovery Plus.

I feel that this is such a good tie and TNT or BBC should have picked it up.

Spurs v Villa and Manchester United v Brighton have both been picked and with all due respect, they're not games with huge amounts of jeopardy on them. They're not games where loads of people are going to tune in with lots of intrigue.

A local derby, with a struggling Premier League team, would have been a great tie to choose and obviously the money that you would get from that would maximise the revenue.

That's unfortunate, but I do understand where the chairman's coming from in terms of his disappointment, but at the same time Wolves are doing their best to try and get as many fans inside the stadium.
