Shropshire seal national darts promotion

Shropshire County Darts have secured promotion after an impressive campaign which saw them lose just two matches all season and finish top of their division, writes Toby Williamson.

The county side sealed promotion to United Kingdom Darts Association Division Two following their penultimate fixture against Gwynedd, capping off a hard-fought season with a record of six wins, one draw and two defeats.

Although Gwynedd won that weekend fixture 20-16, the 16 points earned by Shropshire proved enough to keep them at the top of the table and confirm promotion.

Shropshire finished the campaign with 69 points for and 39 against, underlining the consistency shown throughout the season.

There were several standout performances during the decisive weekend, with Reece Cook Lucas producing a superb 167 checkout. Josh Pickett also played a crucial role by securing the match-winning point that ultimately helped Shropshire clinch the division title.

Sam Aitkins put on a man-of-the-match display for the A team, with Brian Dolman doing the same for the B side.

In the ladies' teams, Becky Harris was named lady of the match for the A side, with Deana Sheldon receiving the same honour for the B team after both produced outstanding performances.

The county's strength throughout the campaign was further reflected by both the men's A and men's B teams finishing top of their respective divisional standings.

Promotion marks a significant achievement for Shropshire after a season of consistent performances and strong team displays across all sections.

The new campaign in Division Two begins in September, with Shropshire hoping to carry their momentum and impressive form into the higher division as they look to continue their success.
