Shropshire open season with loss to Pears 2nds

Shropshire got their pre-season campaign off to a losing start, going down to a Worcestershire 2nd XI side by five wickets at Wrekin College.

The hosts elected to bat first in the first of their two warm-up games and posted 173 with Omar Ali (36) top-scoring.

Pears spinner Pete Clark did the damage to Shropshire, claiming 3-34.

George Rhodes helped make light work of the chase as he helped the visitors post 89 for the first wicket, breaking the back of Shropshire’s total.

Seamer Jack Twigger, who made his county bow last year, impressed with the ball by taking 3-54.

Youngster Joe Carrasco was last month moved up to Steve Leach’s vice-captain for the Unicorns Championship side.

Shifnal all-rounder Ross Aucott will captain the Twenty20 team assisted by Alexei Kervezee.
