The Prince of Wales bowler teamed up with Mark Harris (Crescent) to retain the Terry and June Sambrook Doubles Cup, adding to his Champion of Champions triumph last month.

Wornell felt right at home on the Prince Hotel green as he and Harris edged to a close 21-17 win against Perry Evans and Keith Wall in the final.

“This was also the second time Danny has won the trophy in consecutive years having previously won it with Tony Parsons in 2014 and 2015,” said a Tanners legue spokesman.

“There were an impressive 29 entries, which made for a long and enjoyable day with some good bowling from players from a wide age range, which was particularly encouraging with so many youngsters taking part.

“Mark and Danny’s route to the final saw them first beating Jacob Wall and Jacob Lyttle 21-16, followed by Anthony and Michael Gray 21-6, Rhys Marshall and Maisy Parsons 21-4 and Steve Ashton and Greg Jones 21-9 in the semi-final.”

Evans and Wall had Kelvin Holder and Peter Thomas (21-12), Cerys Marshall and Jenna Parsons (21-14), Jon and Lee Lyttle (21-15) and semi-final rivals Kian and Mark Parsons (21-3) as theie scalps.

Up in Yorkshire, county No.1 Callum Wraight warmed up for the Isle of Man Festival by qualifying for the finals of the £4,800 Pudsey Classic .

Earlier on Saturday he missed out in the £2,250 Metro Sports Classic in Manchester, but Castlefields team-mate Andrew Armstrong got through to book a return on July 11.
