Lyttle delivers his biggest performance at just the right time - bowls round-up
All the latest action from around the county’s bowling greens.
Jon Lyttle hadn’t enjoyed the best of starts to the Tanners Shropshire bowling season – until it came to the League Handicap.

The Hanwood man had lost all four of his first division games before heading to Greenfields to play in the league’s season-opening competition, which he went and won!
Lyttle beat new Oxon recruit Chris Dodds 21-20 in the final as 38 contested the honours at the Shrewsbury club, the beaten semi-finalists being Jamie Parsons and Dave Peach.
Nigel Ferrington of division one leaders Prince of Wales Hotel won the consolation KO with a 21-13 card against another new Oxon signing in Michael Cooper.
“Thanks to Greenfields for hosting the comp and a big thank you to Jamie Brookes for running it,” said a league spokesperson.
The league's Champion of Champions competition for the 2025 season has been re-arranged for Sunday at Old Shrewsbury from 11am.
County Cup
The waiting game goes on for Meole Brace in the County Cup for another year..
It was 1991 when the Shrewsbury club’s bowlers last got their hands on the Glynn Hill Trophy – and it won’t be happening this year now.
Meole lost the only preliminary round tie in the 12-a-side knockout by 36 shots against Wrockwardine Wood on the men’s green at Chester Road in Whitchurch.
They had five winners, Julian Cooke the best with a 21-12 card, but the 2021 cup winners eased through to the last 16 on June 10 with Clay Flattley (21-5) in the starring role.
Highley League
