Junior Jacob tastes success in just his second season - bowls round-up
All the latest action from across the county’s bowling greens.
Shrewsbury’s Jacob Wall is only in his second season playing bowls but he’s already won a title for his efforts.

The 12-year-old son of Castlefields secretary Graham is the new Molson Coors Mid Shropshire League’s Under-15 Merit champion.
A pupil at Belvedere School, Jacob beat Harris Needham (Sir John Bayley) 21-17 in the final at Stockton on Saturday, racing 11-4 up before being pegged back at 14 across.
But 11-year-old Harris, stunning winner of the league’s sixth division averages last season, could never get ahead as Jacob - surely close to a county junior call up - went on to receive the trophy from league secretary Malcolm Fletcher.
Ellis Grifiths (Prince Hotel) won the consolation knockout after seven contested the day with the main semi-finals seeing Wall beat Ellis Reeves (Horsehay) 21-7 while Needham beat another Castlefields player in Jack Peach 21-18.
Shrewsbury Ladies Bowling League
Reigning Shrewsbury Ladies Bowling League champions Allscott Heath A are going strong in both team knockouts run by the county’s women’s association.
They beat Broseley to reach the semi-finals of the County Cup and are also through to the last four of the D & M Morrey Cup.
They face Bowring B in the County Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, July 15, while Bowring’s A team tackle Sir John Bayley B in the other semi on the same night – and the Morrey Cup final could be an all-Allscott affair.
Morrey Cup semi-final draw (ties to be completed by July 31): Allscott Heath A v St Georges; Allscott Heath B v Bowring A.
Whitchurch Bowling League Jubilee Doubles
Scoring quickly and winning tonight is not just a message to England’s footballers at the World Cup.
It also applies to the Whitchurch Bowling League teams involved in 13 first round ties in its Jubilee Doubles.
Malpas Sports, District D and Audlem C have already been handed walkovers in the five doubles knockout with ties played at neutral venues and last year’s winners, Victoria, were knocked out in the preliminary round.
“England have a fixture tonight so if an early start is wanted, both teams and the venue must be able to accommodate this,” said a spokesman for the North Shropshire association that runs the league.
