All the latest from around the Shropshire bowls greens

Jordan Millman has completed the full set of young titles on offer as the Molson Coors Mid Shropshire Bowling League’s competition programme ramps up a gear.

The Sinclair bowler won the Telford-based league’s Under-18 Merit for the first time at Donnington Wood.

And the comp action in it continues tomorrow with the Dixon Driscoll Doubles at St Georges from 10am, with 24 entries received by midweek but also taken on the day at a cost of £10 per pair.

Millman, who played in the Whitchurch League’s top flight last year and has just finished a first Potteries Panel campaign, had already won the Mid Shropshire’s under-15 and under-25 titles.

But finally adding the under-18 crown was not easy, a league spokesman saying: “He was pushed all the way by Jack Peach (Castlefields) after going 13-9 and 19-16 up, winning 18.

“In the semi-finals Jordan beat last year’s champion Logan Church 12 while Jack Peach beat Emily Hotchkiss 18.

“Thank you to Stuart Church and Brenda Slingo for running the competition and to Donnington Wood for hosting.”

Meanwhile, a late decision was planned for tomorrow’s Newbie competition for novice North Shropshire bowlers at Hodnet (10am start), organiser Jack Hazeldine warning: “Due to lack of entries it is at risk of being cancelled.”

British Club Championship

There won’t be a Shropshire team involved but finals day in the British Club Championship tomorrow will see bowlers swarming to Meole Brace.

The Shrewsbury club’s two greens will host the eight qualifiers vying for the eight-a-side crown with past winners Pudsey and King George V the experienced sides in the line-up.

Opening quarter-final ties on Meole No.2 are Pudsey versus Boldmere S & S and King George V against Windle, while over on the No.1 it is Gladstone taking on Castle Sports and Fenton Private versus Woodlands Park Social.

Boldmere denied Premier League champions Castlefields a place in the finals at the regional qualifying stage while Sir John Bayley were pipped to a ticket by King George V on aggregate.
