Horsehay dominate Highley League's Ladies Singles - bowls round-up
All the latest action from around the county’s bowling greens.
Horsehay are an established force in the Highley League so it was no big surprise that their bowlers dominated its Ladies Singles.

And Kelsie Harris took full advantage of the Telford club hosting this year’s competition by winning the title on Sunday afternoon.
“Congratulations to home bowler Kelsie Harris on winning the ladies singles at Horsehay,” said league chairman and fixture secretary John Palmer. “Ten ladies representing Horsehay, Shifnal and Stockton played in it and Kelsie Harris beat team-mate Beth Reeves 21-16 in the final.
“Thanks to Horsehay BC for the use of their green, all the measurers and card markers and to league treasurer Jeanette Bennett for presenting the trophy to the winner.”
Harris beat Stockton’s averages leader Debbie Jones 21-12 in her semi-final while Reeve was defeating another Horsehay player in Jodie Simmonds 21-9.
The winner – and that of the over-60s singles at Bridgnorth on June 28 – will be offered a place in the new Champion of Champions knockouts on October 11.
England clash
England’s bid for World Cup glory has given clubs in two main evening bowls leagues in Shropshire a potential new goal - to get finished quick.
Teams in the Whitchurch and Market Drayton league have been given permission to start their fixtures early so they can watch England’s opening football matches across the Atlantic that kick off at 9pm BST.
“We’re aware that upcoming England fixtures clash with some league nights,” said a spokesperson for the North Shropshire association that runs both leagues.
“To help everyone enjoy both bowls and the football, the committee is happy for matches to start earlier if both teams agree.”
Jubilee Doubles ties on Wednesday, June 17 clash with England’s opener against Croatia while top Whitchurch matches on Tuesday, June 23, are on the same night as Thomas Tuchel’s side face Ghana.
Junior course
A new junior bowling course for the school summer holidays is being launched by another Shropshire club.
Edgmond, who boast the green voted best in the county for the last two years, are following the example set by Bridgnorth and Whitchurch’s District Club.
“We are pleased to invite pupils aged eight and over to join our Junior Summer Crown Green Bowling Course,” said Sarah Glenhomes on behalf of the village club.
“The sessions will be run by qualified coaches, and all helpers are DBS‑checked, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for every participant.”
They will be held on Fridays, July 31 and August 7-14-21-28 from 10am to 12 noon and the cost for the five weeks is £15, which includes snacks and a certificate.
“We hope pupils and parents are interested but spaces are limited - for more information or to book contact me (email [email protected]) or call 07792 428685,” she added.
