Aston Villa closing on winger target after £47m deal agreed
Business at Villa Park remains brisk.
Villa are closing in on the signing of winger Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain.
The clubs have agreed a deal worth around £47million, with the Senegal international now on course to become the club’s ninth signing of the transfer window.
Mbaye, 18, has been a long-term target for boss Unai Emery and will join part of a revamped Villa attack.
The club had been in negotiations with AC Milan for Portugal international Rafael Leao but faced stern competition from Galatasaray, who had already agreed a fee with the Italian club.
Mbaye will become the second winger to join Villa this summer, following the arrival of Alejandro Garnacho on loan from Chelsea.
Striker Nicolas Jackson, meanwhile, completed his move from Chelsea earlier on Friday for an initial £47.5m.
The 25-year-old could make his debut in Monday’s home clash with Premier League champions Arsenal, along with free agent midfielder signing Leon Goretzka.
Jackson’s arrival has coincided with the departure of Ollie Watkins to Al-Hilal for a fee of more than £50million.
The England international and his representatives travelled to Saudi Arabia on Friday morning to finalise the move.
Villa are still targeting a defender before Tuesday’s deadline to replace Ezri Konsa, who joined Arsenal last week.
